Strickland's Kennels has now teamed up with Steelshot Retrievers to provide gun dog training. We specializes in retriever training, hunt test training and obedience training. Our goal is to produce the best retrievers and to provide the best education for owners and handlers.

We tailor our programs to fit each individual dog and owner's needs, and we accomplish this task during the time frame in which a dog is in training. Whether you are looking for just basic obedience training, a started gun dog, finished gun dog, or a well polished master hunter, we have the right program for you and your dog. Strickland's Kennels and Steelshot Retrievers has access to over 4,000 acres of training grounds both public and private, located in North Carolina and Ohio.

Strickland's Kennels Basic Obedience program lasts for two months. In those two months, your dog will learn basic obedience commands required of all retrievers, such as sit, stay, return upon command, stop and sit upon return if so commanded, lay down, not jump, heel on and off the leash, quiet, kennel on command and load into a vehicle. This program is also offered to any and all dog breeds that are at least 30lbs. and able to live in outdoor kennels.

Basic Obedience Training is $350.00 per month for two months. Owners are required to furnish a two month supply of heart wormer and flea & tick control for their dog’s stay.

Our gun dog program teaches your retriever to be a well started retriever with the skills needed to be finished out by you or another professional trainer. The Gun Dog program also covers all the above listed obedience commands, e-collar conditioning, & force fetch training. Strickland's Kennels Associate Trainer Batchelor helps manage force fetch training, collar conditioning, and basic obedience exercises.

Training at Strickland's Kennels costs $500.00 per month; this fee covers training, food, and kenneling. Owners are required to furnish supply heart wormer and flea & tick control for their dog’s stay. Owners are also asked to pay any and all veterinary costs and pay for live birds each month. We use a minimum of two live birds each month.
